"...Ann Guidera-Matey  gets sunset colors that are so vivid you nearly need to shade your eyes.
Her marshland landscaopes are wonderfully vivid and serene.
Chambless of the Chester County Press 8/5/19

I paint simple moments in nature that take my breath away.  The Light at day’s end, Queen Anne’s Lace floating across a field or the rhythmic masts of boats reflected in quiet waters are instances that replenish my soul. When I paint, I reconnect with and share my emotional response to these episodes.  Light, color and texture, invite you into my paintings where you can stay, take a deep breath and experience the moment.

My compositions are simple and direct and pastel is my primary medium. I enjoy pastels’ immediacy and find the vibrant colors effective for conveying joy or wonderment. My pastels are applied to a panel that is under painted with acrylic and then primed with a pumice gel mixture that provides texture

I have been working with pastels for approximately 25 years and like most artists, take joy in being a student and taking classes with internationally known Master Pastelists. Favorite places of inspiration include the Eastern Shore of Maryland, the New Jersey Shore, the Brandywine River Valley, Hudson, New York and Maine. Recent trips to Ireland, France and Italy have energized my work.

After raising my family and leaving a position in arts administration at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 2015, I am now able to pursue my passion for pastels full time.

Now living in Rose Valley PA with my husband, I paint at Heron Crest Studios in Aston, Pennsylvania where visitors are welcome by appointment throughout the year.  You can also reach me through this website by clicking HERE.
